Dr Nicola Rose, Executive Director of Science and Research at the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours. The honour recognizes her exceptional contributions to regulatory science and public health protection.

As a key figure in medicine oversight, Dr Rose has shaped evidence-based regulatory frameworks that safeguard millions of patients. Her leadership encompasses clinical trial oversight, post-market surveillance, safety monitoring, and emergency use authorizations during health crises. The MHRA’s rigorous approach ensures that all medicines and medical devices meet stringent safety, quality, and efficacy standards before reaching patients.

This recognition underscores the vital role regulatory science plays in modern healthcare. Strong scientific leadership at regulatory agencies enables both innovation and protection, demonstrating that rigorous oversight and therapeutic advancement can advance together to benefit public health.
