The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and BBC StoryWorks have unveiled “Animals & Us,” an innovative multimedia educational series designed to illuminate the critical interconnections between animal and human health. This collaborative initiative addresses one of modern medicine’s most pressing challenges: understanding and implementing One Health principles across diverse global populations.
The series arrives at a pivotal moment in global health. With approximately 75% of emerging infectious diseases originating from animals, the need for integrated surveillance systems and coordinated pandemic prevention strategies has never been more urgent. By combining WOAH’s technical expertise with BBC StoryWorks’ multimedia storytelling capabilities, the partnership creates accessible educational content tailored for international audiences.
The initiative specifically tackles antimicrobial resistance and disease surveillance while drawing on case studies from multiple continents. Dr. Monique Éloit, WOAH’s Director General, emphasizes that public understanding is fundamental to implementing effective One Health strategies. Through this educational endeavor, veterinary surveillance systems’ role in early disease detection and prevention will reach broader audiences.
