A recent clinical case offers three essential insights for managing antibiotic-resistant infections. First, bacteriophage therapy can eliminate pathogens resistant to multiple antimicrobial classes, including last-resort agents like colistin. Second, direct multisite administration of targeted phage cocktails achieves complete bacterial eradication in deep bone infections where conventional approaches fail. Third, sustained long-term outcomes are achievable, with this patient remaining infection-free for 12 months post-treatment without complications. The case involved a 45-year-old with multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa following neurosurgery, treated by Dr. Aurore Denis at the University Hospital of Rennes. For clinicians managing refractory infections, bacteriophage therapy represents a validated salvage option deserving consideration when standard antimicrobials exhaust their effectiveness, potentially preventing severe morbidity and mortality in otherwise untreatable cases.
